2 Days/1 Night Lake Nakuru

Overview

OVERVIEW

Lake Nakuru National Park is known for a gentle undulating terrain with open bush and woodlands which is typical of the dry rift valley vegetation. Additionally, a sizeable percentage of the park is composed of Lake Nakuru. This lake Lake is one of the chain of 8 lakes that stretch the length of Kenya and Tanzania all the way up to Ethiopia. While driving from Nairobi, you will drive through farmlands of the Kikuyu Community and drop down the escarpment into the dramatic floor of the Rift Valley. The lake is world famous for its great bird spectacle on earth –specifically the Pink flamingoes whose numbers are legion and often more than a million in number. Lake Nakuru National Park was declared a Rhino Sanctuary in 1983 and the Rhino stocking program which ensued thereafter has received a sizeable number of white rhinos from South Africa. Currently the sanctuary has approximately 45 black and 31 white rhinoceros. The lake water is highly saline but supports a habitat rich in bio diversity including a variety of aquatic flora and fauna. It is worth pointing out that Lake Nakuru is inhabited by water mammals mainly hippopotamus and otters.Whereas the terrestrial part of the park supports a large number of other African plain mammals, the Park is also a sanctuary of the Rothschild's Giraffe.
